Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved two major Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects: a desalination plant to provide drinking water for the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area and a 17-storey technology park at NED University. These decisions were finalized during the 46th meeting of the PPP Policy Board.
The desalination plant, which will be managed by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, is expected to produce up to 46 million gallons per day (MGD) of drinking water.
A company from Kuwait has shown interest in this project, and DHA has committed to purchasing the water. Plans are also in place to work on making the water tariffs more affordable for consumers.
The NED Science and Technology Park is being developed through a government-to-government (G2G) agreement and has already received an equity investment of Rs1.7 billion from the Sindh government. Construction is expected to begin by the end of November, with a targeted completion time of two years. This new technology hub is expected to support innovation and research in science and technology, benefiting students, researchers, and businesses alike.
