Pakistan’s recoverable oil and gas reserves have increased, with the country’s overall hydrocarbon reserve life now estimated at around 19 years, according to a recent Arif Habib Limited (AHL) research report based on Pakistan Petroleum Information Service data.
As of June 2026, Pakistan’s oil reserves rose 15% year-on-year to 276 million barrels, compared with 240 million barrels a year earlier. Natural gas reserves also increased by 9% to 20,664 billion cubic feet, up from 18,981 Bcf in June 2025.
The country’s total recoverable hydrocarbon reserves reached approximately 3.72 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) by June 2026. New discoveries and reserve upgrades helped offset depletion at several mature oil and gas fields.
Newly discovered fields, including Spinwam, Baragzai, Bitrism East, Chakar and Faakir, collectively added around 53.52 million barrels of oil and 772.97 Bcf of gas to Pakistan’s reserve base.
The improvement marks a significant increase from the estimated 15-year reserve life recorded in June 2024 and June 2023. However, the 19-year figure represents an estimate based on current production and reserve data, rather than a guarantee that supplies will last exactly 19 years.
The latest figures highlight the importance of continued exploration and new discoveries to strengthen Pakistan’s domestic energy supply and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
