In a recent interview with a local media outlet, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi shared his thoughts on workload management in modern cricket. He pointed out that legendary players like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis did not face the same workload issues as contemporary players do. According to Afridi, managing workload largely depends on how individual players approach different formats of the game.
He emphasized the importance of mental fitness and strength, noting that one’s level of mental toughness plays a crucial role in handling workload challenges. “If you react negatively, it will hinder your performance. I understand that there are times when performing can be tough. You try to adjust your body and technique, but sometimes that requires time. During such periods, it’s essential to receive support from management and those around you. Regardless of the format, players should enjoy the game,” he added.
Since facing persistent injuries in 2022, Shaheen has struggled to regain his peak performance. His pace and form have declined, and he recently dealt with knee issues during a Champions Cup match. Pakistan hopes that this latest injury is minor and that he will be fully fit ahead of the Test series against England next month.
