Pakistani exporters achieved a significant milestone by securing $3 billion worth of export orders at Heimtextil, the largest textile trade fair in the world, held in Frankfurt, Germany. This achievement marks a positive step for Pakistan’s textile sector, with Faisalabad, a major hub of textile production, expected to benefit greatly. Imran Mehmood, the Central Chairman of the All Pakistan Bedsheet and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA), highlighted the importance of these orders in boosting the industry and improving its international standing.
Mehmood also shared the government’s ambitious plan to increase Pakistan’s overall exports from $30 billion to $100 billion within the next five years. However, he stressed the need for urgent action to support the textile industry, which is currently facing serious challenges. Rising costs of electricity, gas, and yarn are making it difficult for the industry to stay competitive in the global market. He urged the government to step in and address these issues to ensure the industry’s growth and stability.
In addition, Mehmood highlighted the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are often referred to as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. He called on the government to offer low-interest loans to these businesses to help them expand and improve their operations. He also suggested involving the State Bank of Pakistan and APBUMA to ensure that loan distribution is handled transparently and efficiently. According to him, such measures would not only enhance production but also create more jobs and strengthen the overall contribution of the textile sector to Pakistan’s economy.
This achievement at Heimtextil demonstrates the potential of Pakistan’s textile industry to grow and compete internationally. However, continued government support and reforms are essential to sustain this progress and unlock further opportunities for the sector.
