496 km/h! BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme Beats Bugatti Chiron to Become World’s Fastest Production Car

by Hameed

Chinese carmaker BYD has made history by breaking Bugatti’s long-standing top speed record. Its new all-electric Yangwang U9 Xtreme is now officially the fastest production car in the world.

The record was set during a high-speed test in Germany, where the U9 Xtreme reached an incredible 496 km/h. This achievement beats the previous record of 490 km/h held by the famous Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. The car was driven by experienced racer Marc Basseng, who successfully pushed it to the limit.

What makes this record even more impressive is that the U9 Xtreme is fully electric. Powered by four electric motors, the car produces a massive 2,959 brake horsepower (bhp).

To keep the vehicle stable at such extreme speeds, BYD equipped it with the latest DiSus-X suspension system and semi-slick tires, giving it better balance and control on the track.

Despite weighing 2,480 kilograms, the U9 Xtreme proves that electric vehicles are not only environmentally friendly but also capable of redefining performance standards in the supercar industry.

This achievement shows just how fast EV technology is advancing, competing directly with and even surpassing the best petrol-powered hypercars in the world.

For decades, Bugatti has been seen as the king of speed, holding one record after another. But with this milestone, BYD has ended Bugatti’s dominance, showing that innovation and engineering can come from new players in the automotive world. The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is not just a car it is a clear statement of the future of speed.
