Pakistan is once again turning to its trusted spin attack as the key weapon to secure a series victory against South Africa, said interim red-ball head coach Azhar Mehmood ahead of the second Test in Lahore. Following their impressive win in the first Test, the team is confident that its spinners can continue to dominate on home soil.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mehmood emphasized that Pakistan’s pre-series training camp was specifically designed to help batters and bowlers adjust to spin-friendly conditions. He noted that players worked extensively on shot selection, footwork, and scoring strategies against spin, areas that have often proven decisive in subcontinental matches.
“The camp was aimed at preparing players to play spin effectively on these pitches,” Mehmood explained. “We focused on improving decision-making and confidence at the crease to counter South Africa’s tactics.”
He also confirmed that while the final playing XI will be announced on the morning of the match, only minor changes are expected, depending on the pitch and weather conditions.
Pakistan’s spin duo of Noman Ali and Abrar Ahmed were instrumental in the opening Test victory, and their continued form could be crucial for the team’s success. With momentum on their side, Pakistan is looking to wrap up the series with another strong performance at home.
