Major Development! Rawalpindi to Get Multiple New Flyovers and Underpasses Worth Rs. 6.6 Billion

Rawalpindi residents, get ready for some major traffic relief. The Punjab Communication and Works Department has kicked off groundwork for ambitious infrastructure upgrades across the city worth a whopping Rs. 6.6 billion. If you’ve been stuck in Rawalpindi’s notorious traffic jams, this news should bring some hope.

The massive development project includes construction of flyovers and underpasses at several key congestion points throughout the city.

Major work is planned at Kutchery Chowk, Jinnah Park, and the Iftikhar Janjua underpass, all locations where traffic routinely grinds to a frustrating halt during peak hours. These improvements aren’t just about fancy infrastructure; they’re specifically aimed at easing the daily traffic nightmare and improving connectivity across the city.

According to officials, actual construction is expected to begin in early November, pending final clearance from garrison authorities. Given Rawalpindi’s status as a garrison city with significant military presence, such approvals are a standard part of any major infrastructure project.

But that’s not all. The development plan also includes new underpasses at Race Course Park, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road. Once completed, these will create a signal-free route stretching from Ammar Chowk all the way to the motorway – imagine driving that entire stretch without stopping at a single traffic light!

Work hasn’t just been announced; it’s already underway in some areas. Construction crews have begun working on service roads and drainage systems, laying the groundwork for the larger projects to come. For Rawalpindi’s commuters who waste hours in traffic daily, these developments can’t come soon enough.
