Turkiye Seeks Pakistan’s Participation in KAAN 5th Generation Fighter Program

by Mahnoor Arif

Turkiye has expressed interest in Pakistan joining its ambitious KAAN 5th-generation fighter jet program, a major step that could strengthen defense cooperation between the two long-time partners. The two countries already share deep military ties, with Turkiye helping Pakistan upgrade its F-16 fleet and co-producing corvette warships under earlier agreements.

The KAAN project is one of Turkiye’s most advanced defense initiatives. It aims to create a next-generation stealth fighter jet equipped with modern avionics, advanced radar, high maneuverability, and sophisticated weapon systems. The program focuses on indigenous production, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and building a strong technological foundation for the future.

Experts say Pakistan’s participation would bring several benefits. It could allow Pakistan to access cutting-edge aerospace technology, enhance its own defense capabilities, and contribute to the development of a modern fighter jet designed to compete globally. For Turkiye, Pakistan’s involvement would add technical support, strategic cooperation, and potential shared production opportunities.

Officials also highlight that the KAAN program encourages international collaboration, making it open to partners who can help develop, build, and operate the aircraft. With Pakistan’s long history of aircraft production and joint ventures, such as the JF-17 Thunder, analysts believe Islamabad could play a meaningful role in the project.

The proposal reflects a growing trend of defense and technological alignment between the two countries. If Pakistan joins the KAAN program, it could mark a significant milestone in regional defense partnerships and future military innovation.
