KP to Hire 10,000 School Teachers

by Mahnoor Arif

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a major plan to temporarily hire 10,000 school teachers to address staff shortages in public schools. The move aims to improve learning conditions and ensure that students do not suffer due to a lack of teachers, especially in remote and underserved areas.

According to official details, teachers will be hired temporarily with monthly salaries of up to Rs 25,000. A total of 5,845 teaching posts will be filled in settled districts, while 4,229 positions are reserved for merged tribal districts. The duration of contracts will differ by region, depending on local needs and administrative decisions.

The recruitment process has been divided by school level to facilitate quicker and more organized hiring. For primary schools, the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) will act as the hiring authority. In middle schools, recruitment will be handled by the Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO). For high and higher secondary schools, the District Education Officer (DEO) will be responsible.

To maintain transparency, the Parent Teacher Council (PTC) will oversee the entire hiring process. Officials say this step will help reduce favoritism and ensure that deserving candidates are selected on merit.

Education officials believe this initiative will alleviate pressure on existing staff and help schools operate smoothly, especially in areas where permanent teachers are unavailable. While the appointments are temporary, the government says they are a necessary step to support students and keep classrooms active.

The decision has been welcomed by many education advocates, who see it as a practical solution to immediate teaching gaps across the province.
