A touching story of kindness and unexpected fortune has captured people’s hearts. When she was just five years old, Juliette Lamour of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, emptied her piggy bank and donated all her savings, about $61.38, to help victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake through the Canadian Red Cross. It was a simple act of generosity with no expectation of reward.
Thirteen years later, something remarkable happened. On her 18th birthday, Juliette bought her first ever lottery ticket at her grandfather’s suggestion.
She chose a Lotto 6/49 Quick Pick, a random selection of numbers, and forgot about it. When she later checked the ticket, she discovered she had won a C$48 million jackpot, one of the largest lottery prizes in Ontario history.
Juliette’s win made her the youngest person in Canada to claim such a large prize. At the time, she was a student at Algoma University, studying biology and planning a future in medicine.
Despite her sudden windfall, Juliette said she still intends to finish her education and use her winnings responsibly. Her father, a financial advisor, plans to help manage the funds wisely.
The story has been shared widely as an example of how early acts of kindness can leave a lasting impression. Although there is no direct evidence that generosity leads to lottery wins, many people have interpreted her experience as a powerful reminder of compassion and the importance of giving without expecting anything in return.
Juliette has said she plans to travel with her family, invest wisely, and hopefully give back to her community in meaningful ways as her life changes in the years ahead.
