Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a Rs 38 billion Ramazan Relief Package 2026 aimed at supporting 12.1 million households across the country. Under the initiative, eligible families will receive Rs 13,000 through digital wallets during the holy month of Ramadan.

The government said the funds will be distributed nationwide, covering all four provinces as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. In addition to the main allocation, an extra Rs 10 billion has been set aside for stipends to further ease financial pressure on low income families.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the prime minister acknowledged the logistical challenges involved in rolling out such a large scale digital program. He pointed to issues related to banking coordination and digital infrastructure but stressed that the government is committed to ensuring transparent and smooth disbursement.

Officials say the use of digital wallets is intended to reduce leakages and improve accountability. Direct transfers are expected to help families manage rising expenses during Ramadan, particularly food and essential items.

PM Shehbaz also thanked international partners for their support and pledged regular reviews to monitor implementation. He said strict oversight mechanisms would be in place to ensure that funds reach the intended beneficiaries without delay.

The relief package comes at a time when many households are facing economic strain, and the government hopes the initiative will provide timely support during Ramadan.
