Pakistani freelancers have generated a record $557 million in foreign exchange during the first half of FY 2025-26, marking a 58 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The figures reflect the rapid expansion of Pakistan’s digital economy and the growing global demand for remote services.
Industry experts say the surge is largely driven by skilled professionals offering software development, digital marketing, content writing, graphic design, and e-commerce services to international clients. Platforms like Upwork and Fiverr have played a key role in connecting Pakistani talent with global markets.
Pakistan has consistently ranked among the top freelancing countries in Asia. The country’s young population, competitive service rates, and improving internet access have helped strengthen its position in the global gig economy. Analysts note that freelancers contribute significantly to foreign exchange inflows, especially at a time when exports and remittances are closely monitored indicators of economic health.
Government initiatives, including digital skills training programs and support through the Pakistan Software Export Board, have further encouraged young professionals to pursue online work. Private sector training institutes and tech incubators are also helping freelancers improve their skills and scale their businesses.
Economists believe that sustained policy support, stable internet infrastructure, and easier payment solutions could help the sector grow even further. The latest milestone highlights how Pakistan’s freelance community is becoming a vital pillar of the national economy.
