NUST, AKU and LUMS Among Pakistan’s Top 35 Universities in QS World Rankings

Pakistan has shown steady progress in higher education, with 35 universities featured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Out of these, 31 are public institutions and 4 are private, reflecting a growing academic presence on the global stage.

Among the top performers, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) stands out in engineering and technology fields. Quaid-i-Azam University has performed strongly in natural sciences, maintaining its reputation for research and academic excellence.

In the business category, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is ranked among the top 150 universities worldwide. Meanwhile, Aga Khan University (AKU) continues to hold a strong position in medicine and life sciences, known for its quality education and healthcare research.

Other universities also made notable contributions. These include Institute of Business Administration, University of the Punjab, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, and University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Many of these institutions performed well in subjects like agriculture, engineering, and business studies.

Overall, Pakistani universities secured around 180 subject entries in the rankings. Experts say this shows moderate global competitiveness and highlights the country’s improving research output.

While challenges remain, the rankings indicate that Pakistan’s higher education sector is gradually gaining recognition worldwide.
