Massive 820% Increase! Over 1 Million International Tourists Visited Pakistan Last Year

by Mahnoor Arif

akistan’s tourism sector is booming! Last year, the country welcomed over 1 million international tourists for the first time in recent history. This marks a massive 820% increase compared to previous low years, showing strong recovery and growing global interest in Pakistan as a travel destination.

The growth is largely driven by Green Tourism Pakistan, a government-backed initiative under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). It focuses on sustainable development, better infrastructure, and promoting natural beauty, culture, and adventure tourism.

Gilgit-Baltistan has received huge international attention. Both BBC and CNN included it in their lists of the top 25 best travel destinations for 2025. Travellers are attracted to its stunning mountains, lakes, valleys, and peaks like K2.

To make travel easier, Pakistan introduced simplified visa procedures. Citizens of 126 countries can now get a visa-on-arrival or an electronic visa quickly. The new E-Tourism portal called “Tourism on the Palm” helps tourists plan trips, book services, and get information easily from their phones.

Green Pak Hotels and Resorts, part of the Green Tourism project, has completed 17 projects in just two years. The company plans to open 10 more hotels and resorts in beautiful locations, including Gadani, Sonmiani, Hunza, and other scenic spots. These eco-friendly stays aim to provide quality accommodation while supporting local communities.
