Fuel Price on the Rise? Russia Announces Suspension of Petroleum Experts

by Mahnoor Arif

Russia has announced a ban on gasoline exports starting from April 1, 2026. The move aims to keep fuel prices stable inside the country and ensure enough supply for local needs.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak instructed the Energy Ministry to prepare a decree banning gasoline exports. The restriction is expected to last until July 31, 2026. Russia has taken similar steps in the past whenever domestic fuel prices started rising too quickly.

This decision comes at a time when global oil markets are highly uncertain due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Attacks on energy infrastructure and fears of supply disruptions have pushed international oil prices higher. Brent crude has been trading well above $100 per barrel in recent days.

By stopping exports, Russia wants to protect its own drivers, industries, and farmers from sudden price shocks. Even though Russia produces a lot of oil and refined products, strong demand from abroad and global volatility have created pressure on local prices.

Analysts say the ban may reduce the supply of gasoline in the international market and could add further upward pressure on global fuel prices. However, the main goal for Moscow is to prioritise domestic needs during this period of uncertainty.

If global tensions ease, the export ban could be lifted earlier. For now, the step shows how countries are trying to shield their economies from the effects of the Middle East conflict.
