Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the government is taking strong steps to provide more relief to lower and middle-income families during ongoing economic and regional challenges.

He shared these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting to review the country’s financial situation and public welfare measures. The prime minister said the government is focusing on reducing its own expenses so that more support can be given to the public.

As part of austerity measures, he directed that around 60 percent of official government vehicles should be taken off the road. He also ordered strict cuts in non-essential spending across different departments. According to officials, these steps are aimed at saving funds that can be used for relief programmes.

The prime minister also revealed that proposals to increase fuel prices were rejected to avoid placing extra burden on citizens. Instead, the government plans to use savings from reduced spending to support the public.

Officials in the meeting confirmed that fuel and medicine stocks in the country are currently sufficient. They added that digital systems are being used to make sure financial assistance reaches deserving people in a transparent and efficient way.

The government says it will continue monitoring the situation closely and take further steps to reduce pressure on common citizens in the coming months.
