hree passengers suspected of having monkeypox were identified at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday, according to sources. These individuals had arrived from Middle Eastern countries and have since been transferred to the Sindh government’s Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Monkeypox, also known as Mpox, is a viral infection that can cause flu-like symptoms and skin rashes. While the infection is generally mild, it can result in serious complications for children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

In August 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency following the emergence of a new variant. Since January 2023, over 27,000 cases and more than 1,100 deaths have been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with children being the most affected group.

Health officials in Pakistan are urging the public to stay alert and take precautionary measures as more suspected cases come to light.
