Bank Alfalah Limited, one of Pakistan’s leading commercial banks, has partnered with the Cancer Foundation Hospital, a renowned non-profit healthcare institution, to provide essential treatment for women battling breast cancer. This collaboration aims to support breast cancer patients by offering them life-saving care, ensuring that financial challenges do not stand in the way of their treatment.
As part of this partnership, Bank Alfalah and Roche Pakistan have jointly contributed PKR 10.75 million towards the medication expenses and treatment of five breast cancer patients. This financial support will cover the cost of comprehensive treatment, allowing these women to access critical healthcare services at no cost.
The Cancer Foundation Hospital is well-known for its commitment to providing affordable cancer care, regardless of a patient’s financial circumstances. With a state-of-the-art facility housing 100 beds, the hospital offers a wide range of cancer services, including diagnostics, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
In addition to medical treatment, the hospital also provides emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, helping them navigate the difficult journey of battling cancer.Breast cancer is a pressing public health concern in Pakistan, which has one of the highest rates of the disease in Asia. Currently, over 10 million women in the country are at risk of developing breast cancer, and each year, approximately 90,000 new cases are diagnosed. Unfortunately, the disease claims around 40,000 lives annually. Despite these alarming statistics, only 25–30% of women are aware of the importance of early detection through self-examinations or mammography, which is crucial for improving survival rates.
This partnership between Bank Alfalah and the Cancer Foundation Hospital aims not only to provide treatment but also to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Through this initiative, Bank Alfalah hopes to educate more women about the benefits of self-examinations and regular screenings, which can significantly increase the chances of early diagnosis and successful treatment.
Mehreen Ahmed, Group Head of Retail Banking at Bank Alfalah, emphasized the bank’s commitment to addressing societal issues beyond its core business operations. “At Bank Alfalah, we believe in going beyond business operations to address critical societal issues. Breast cancer is a major health challenge, and through our partnership with Cancer Foundation Hospital, we aim to provide tangible support to women battling cancer. Our commitment extends to ensuring that financial constraints never become a barrier to receiving life-saving treatment,” she said.
The collaboration between Bank Alfalah, Roche Pakistan, and the Cancer Foundation Hospital represents a vital step in the ongoing fight against breast cancer in Pakistan, providing both financial assistance and raising awareness to make a meaningful impact on the lives of countless women across the country.
