Grade 17 and Above Govt Officers’ Assets to Become Public by Federal Govt

by Hameed

The federal government has taken a major step to meet a key condition set by IMF by making it compulsory for all government officers in Grade 17 and above to publicly declare their assets, as well as those of their family members.

This new rule is part of the Civil Servants Amendment Act 2025. Under this law, officials must file their asset declarations through a digital system. FBR will be in charge of publishing these details while ensuring that personal data remains protected.

The amendment has been officially approved by the President and adds a new section, A-15, to the original Civil Servants Act of 1973. This move is aimed at improving transparency and accountability in the public sector.

The decision comes after the government recently introduced several IMF-backed reforms, including tax increases and a new Rs. 2.5 per liter climate levy on fuel. These steps are part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s economy through improved fiscal discipline and better governance.

By requiring senior government officials to disclose their assets, the government hopes to rebuild public trust and reduce corruption. It also shows the state’s commitment to carrying out tough but necessary reforms to stabilize the economy.

This new law is expected to help improve financial oversight and bring Pakistan closer to meeting its international obligations.
