A sudden cloudburst at Babusar Top caused dangerous flash floods that washed away more than 15 tourist vehicles in Gilgit-Baltistan. The floods were the result of heavy rain that hit the area, mainly affecting the Chilas region.
Rescue teams have recovered five bodies so far and managed to save four people from the floodwaters. Unfortunately, several tourists are still missing, and search operations are still underway to find them.
Faizullah Faraq, a spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, said that rescue work was paused during the night due to darkness, but teams resumed their efforts as soon as it was safe to do so in the morning.
Local people have also stepped in to help the stranded tourists. More than 200 tourists who were stuck due to the floods have been rescued with the support of residents. In addition, over 100 people have been given shelter and food in local homes in Thak Babusar village until the situation improves.
Officials have advised people to avoid traveling to Babusar Top and nearby areas until the weather clears up and conditions are safe again. Tourists are also urged to stay updated on weather forecasts, as sudden heavy rains can easily cause floods in mountain regions.
This tragic event shows how quickly mountain weather can change and how important it is for tourists to take safety precautions. Rescue teams and local volunteers continue to work hard to find the missing and help everyone affected by the floods.
