All 250 tourists who were stuck on Babusar Road due to a cloudburst and landslides have now been rescued and safely moved to Chilas, according to the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government.
However, search teams are still looking for 15 people who are missing after the heavy rain and landslides. The flash floods in Diamer have sadly taken at least five lives, including four tourists who were caught in the disaster.
Due to dangerous road conditions, key routes such as Babusar Road, Karakoram Highway, and roads leading to popular tourist spots like Naran and Kaghan are still closed for all traffic. Officials are warning tourists not to travel to Gilgit-Baltistan until the weather improves and roads are cleared.
Emergency relief shelters have been set up for those who are stranded or in need of help. Rescue workers and local authorities are working round the clock to ensure everyone’s safety and provide food, shelter, and medical care. The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan is also scheduled to visit Babusar today to check the situation on the ground and see the damage caused by the severe weather.
Across Pakistan, heavy monsoon rains continue to cause trouble, with the total number of deaths from rain-related incidents now reaching 234. The government is asking people to stay alert, follow travel advisories, and avoid areas with landslide and flood warnings. Everyone is urged to stay safe and cooperate with rescue teams during this difficult time.
