Record Remittances Received! Overseas Pakistanis Sent $3.21 Billion in July, Up 7% from Last Year

Pakistan received a record $3.21 billion in workers’ remittances in July 2025, marking a 7.4% increase compared to $2.99 billion in July 2024. This is the highest monthly figure in the country’s history, highlighting the continued importance of overseas Pakistanis to the national economy.

Saudi Arabia remained the top source, sending $823.7 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates with $665.2 million and the United Kingdom with $450.4 million. The European Union also showed strong growth, particularly from countries like Italy, Spain, and Ireland, reflecting the increasing contribution of Pakistani workers in these regions.

However, not all markets performed positively. Remittances from the United States dropped by 10.2% to $269.6 million. Other Asian countries, including Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, also recorded declines, signaling potential vulnerabilities in the remittance flow.

Economists have expressed concern over Pakistan’s heavy reliance on a few key countries for the majority of its remittance earnings. They caution that economic changes, policy shifts, or labor market disruptions in these countries could significantly affect Pakistan’s inflows.

Experts are urging the government to diversify its labor export destinations and focus on upskilling the workforce. By training workers for specialized and high-demand jobs, Pakistan could tap into new markets and maintain stable growth in remittances.

This record achievement is a positive milestone, but long-term strategies will be essential to sustain and expand these inflows for economic stability.
