‘Babar, Rizwan are No Longer Key Player’, Muhammad Hafeez

by Hameed

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has stirred debate by saying that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are no longer the main match-winners for the national team. He shared his views on a YouTube show, where he stressed that consistent players like Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, and Hasan Nawaz are now playing bigger roles in securing victories.

Hafeez pointed out that Babar and Rizwan need to prove their worth again by finding form and performing under pressure. According to him, past records and reputations cannot be the only reasons to keep someone in the squad. He highlighted that cricket is about current performance, not history, and that every player must continue to earn their place.

He did not stop at batting concerns but also raised questions about Pakistan’s bowling unit. Hafeez criticised Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah for not producing enough match-winning spells despite being considered the country’s top pacers. He noted that their lack of consistency has hurt the team in crucial games.

Hafeez further urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to rethink its selection approach. Instead of relying on a few star names, he suggested the focus should shift toward players who can consistently perform at the highest level. He argued that only those who regularly deliver should be trusted to carry the team forward.

His remarks have opened discussions among fans and experts about the future of Pakistan cricket and the importance of rewarding form over reputation.
