Pakistan Confirms Boycott of Hockey Asia Cup in India

by Hameed

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has confirmed that the national men’s hockey team will not compete in the Hockey Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 27 to September 7.

According to PHF, the decision was based on security concerns. The federation stressed that protecting the safety, dignity, and confidence of players is more important than participation.

While the Indian government had expressed its willingness to issue visas and provide necessary arrangements, PHF stated that wider political circumstances were also taken into account before reaching the final decision.

With Pakistan stepping back, Bangladesh has been given the opportunity to join the competition, keeping the tournament’s eight-team structure intact.

Officials from PHF explained that the team’s focus will now shift toward preparing for upcoming international tournaments in safer and more supportive conditions. They highlighted that the players deserve to perform in an environment free from external pressure or security fears, where the only focus remains on their game.

The PHF further underlined the need for neutral and fair sporting platforms, where athletes from all countries can participate without any concerns. They said that sports should serve as a bridge for nations, not be affected by political or security issues.

By choosing to step away from the Asia Cup, Pakistan has sent a clear message that the well-being of its players will always come first. The federation believes this approach will help the team prepare stronger for future global competitions.
