NDMA Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Punjab and Azad Kashmir

by Hameed

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall in different parts of Punjab and Azad Kashmir during the next 12 to 24 hours. According to the alert, major cities such as Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and Jhelum may face the risk of urban flooding due to continuous rain.

Waterlogging on roads and in low-lying areas could disturb routine life, making travel difficult and increasing safety concerns for residents.

The NDMA has also highlighted the danger in hilly regions of Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad. These areas are at high risk of landslides and flash floods as heavy rainfall may trigger sudden water flows from mountains. Such incidents can block roads, damage houses, and pose a serious threat to lives and property.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the spell of heavy rain. People living near rivers, canals, and low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations if needed, as water levels may rise quickly. Travelers heading towards hilly regions should remain alert to possible landslides and stay updated on road conditions before starting their journey.

The NDMA has stressed the importance of following official updates and safety instructions to minimize risks. Citizens have been encouraged to keep emergency supplies at home, avoid going outdoors unnecessarily, and ensure children stay indoors during rainfall.

Emergency response teams are on standby, and efforts are being made to deal with any situation. The public has been reminded that personal safety should remain the top priority until the weather improves.
