Internet users across Pakistan are facing slow connections after a major disruption in the submarine cable network near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The issue was confirmed by officials from Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), who explained that two key international systems, SMW4 and IMEWE, have been affected by the cable cut.
These systems are part of the main infrastructure that carries internet traffic to and from Pakistan, so the problem has caused noticeable delays, especially during busy hours when demand is high.
A spokesperson for PTCL said the company is already taking steps to control the situation. Efforts are being made to secure alternative bandwidth sources so that users can continue to access the internet with minimum disruption.
He added that technical teams are closely monitoring the matter and working around the clock to ensure services return to normal as quickly as possible.
The spokesperson also mentioned that while these arrangements are being made, people should expect temporary slow speeds and occasional interruptions until the full repair of the submarine cable is completed. Such technical issues are not uncommon, as undersea cables are vital communication lines but can be damaged due to natural causes, ship anchors, or technical faults.
Pakistan relies heavily on these submarine cable systems to stay connected to the global internet. Therefore, restoring the connection is a top priority for PTCL and the concerned international partners.
Authorities have assured users that they are doing everything possible to minimize inconvenience and restore stable connectivity at the earliest.
