Personal Data of Pakistani Ministries, Officials, and Citizens Reportedly Sold Online for 500 Rupees

Serious concerns have been raised after reports revealed that the personal data of Pakistani ministers, senior officials, and ordinary citizens is being sold online for as little as Rs500.

The leaked information reportedly includes sensitive records such as SIM card details, copies of CNICs, call logs, and even travel histories. Shockingly, these details are available on open platforms where anyone can buy them.

This is despite earlier claims by PTA that it had blocked such illegal websites and forums.

The incident has caused alarm among experts and the public, who fear that such a large-scale leak could be misused for fraud, identity theft, or even more serious crimes.

Cybersecurity specialists describe the breach as a “systemic failure,” pointing out that the data of citizens and government officials should have been protected by multiple layers of security. They also warn that the leak poses not only a risk to individual privacy but also a direct threat to national security.

Taking notice of the situation, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to conduct a detailed inquiry. A special 14-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter and submit a report within 14 days.

The government is under pressure to act quickly, as the safety of millions of citizens could be at stake. Experts stress the need for stronger cybersecurity policies, regular monitoring of data systems, and strict punishment for those involved in data theft.

For now, the breach has highlighted Pakistan’s urgent need to strengthen its defenses against growing cyber threats.
