Punjab Police launched a strong enforcement drive to ensure traffic laws are followed, resulting in the issuance of 34,342 driving licenses and 37,789 challans within just 24 hours.
The operation generated more than Rs. 26 million in fines as part of efforts to improve road safety and promote responsible driving across the province.
Officials said the campaign focuses on encouraging citizens to follow traffic rules and reduce violations that often lead to accidents. The police have also intensified monitoring through traffic wardens and digital surveillance systems in major cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.
In addition to penalizing traffic violators, authorities took firm action against smoke-emitting and unfit vehicles. Around 703 cars were fined for environmental pollution, and several were impounded for failing to meet safety and emission standards.
The crackdown aims not only to ensure smoother traffic flow but also to address air pollution, which has been worsening across Punjab.
Inspector General of Police Punjab stated that the drive will continue with zero tolerance for reckless driving and unlicensed motorists. He added that public awareness campaigns are being run side by side to educate citizens about the importance of safe driving habits.
Currently, 127 driving schools operate under the supervision of Punjab Police to help new drivers receive professional training and understand traffic laws.
The initiative reflects the department’s broader vision to create safer roads, reduce accident rates, and build a culture of discipline and responsibility among drivers throughout the province.
