Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again. The Portuguese superstar made history on October 14, 2025, during his country’s match against Hungary. Even though the game ended in a 2-2 draw, Ronaldo had plenty to celebrate as he became the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifying matches.
The 40-year-old legend netted two goals in the match, taking his World Cup qualifying tally to an incredible 41 goals. This achievement pushed him past Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz, who previously held the record.
These two strikes also added to Ronaldo’s already impressive numbers. He now has 143 international goals for Portugal and a mind-blowing 948 career goals when you count both club and country.
The draw against Hungary wasn’t ideal for Portugal, but they’re still sitting comfortably at the top of Group F with a five-point lead. Their next qualifying match is scheduled for November 13 against the Republic of Ireland, where Ronaldo will look to continue his remarkable scoring form.
Throughout his legendary career, Ronaldo has collected major trophies, including the Euro 2016 championship and two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal. At 40, he shows no signs of slowing down and continues to break records that seemed impossible just years ago.
This latest milestone proves once again why Ronaldo is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.
