Punjab might soon have its very own airline.
The provincial government’s ambitious project to launch Air Punjab has moved into an advanced stage, with officials now requesting Rs. 1 billion in funding from the finance department to get things off the ground.
The working committee overseeing the project has formally submitted their funding request, marking a significant milestone in making Air Punjab a reality. This isn’t just a small venture either.
The initiative is designed to boost regional connectivity across Punjab and strengthen domestic air travel throughout Pakistan, making it easier for people to move around the province and beyond.
So what’s the plan if the funding gets approved? According to officials involved in the project, Air Punjab will lease five aircraft during its first operational phase. This initial fleet will allow the airline to establish key routes and build up operations gradually before potentially expanding further down the line.
The project represents a major step forward for Punjab, as it would become the province’s first-ever provincial air carrier. No other province in Pakistan currently operates its own airline, so this would be breaking new ground.
The government sees Air Punjab as more than just transportation, it’s about improving the overall infrastructure and making travel more accessible for people across the region.
Now it’s up to the provincial finance department to review the Rs. 1 billion funding request and decide whether to give Air Punjab the green light to take off.
