Romania Shows Interest in Training and Joint Exercises with Pakistan Air Force

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan’s Air Force is gaining international recognition for its professional excellence. Romanian officials have expressed strong interest in learning from the Pakistan Air Force’s operational experience, praising its professionalism and impressive combat record during high-level defense talks between the two countries.

The development came during an official visit to Romania by Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Pakistan’s top air force commander. He held important meetings with Romanian Chief of Defence General Gheorgita Vlad and State Secretary of Defence Eduard Bachide to discuss ways to expand military-to-military collaboration between the two nations.

What makes this particularly noteworthy is that Romania, as a NATO member and European nation, is actively seeking to benefit from Pakistan Air Force’s real-world operational experience.

The PAF has gained valuable expertise through decades of operations, including counter-terrorism missions, border security operations, and maintaining readiness in a challenging regional security environment. This practical experience is something many air forces around the world find valuable for their own training programs.

During the meetings, both sides didn’t just exchange pleasantries, they made concrete commitments. Pakistan and Romania reaffirmed their dedication to deepening defense ties through multiple channels, joint military exercises that allow forces to train together, specialized training programs where personnel can learn from each other, and professional exchanges that build lasting relationships between the two air forces.

This visit represents more than just routine diplomatic engagement. It marks a significant step toward enhancing strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Romania, two countries that may be geographically distant but share common interests in promoting regional peace and security through professional military partnerships.
