In a historic step for Pakistan’s space ambitions, China has announced that a Pakistani astronaut will take part in an upcoming short-term space mission, marking a new chapter in China-Pakistan space cooperation. The announcement highlights the strengthening partnership between the two countries in science, technology, and space exploration.
According to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), two Pakistani astronauts are currently undergoing selection and training alongside Chinese space crews. After completing the training phase, one astronaut will be chosen to join the spaceflight mission as a payload specialist. This role will involve conducting scientific experiments and assisting with joint crew operations aboard the spacecraft.
The mission follows the bilateral space cooperation agreement signed between Pakistan and China in February 2025, aimed at sharing knowledge, technology, and expertise in space science. The collaboration represents an important milestone for Pakistan, which has been working to strengthen its presence in global space research through partnerships with advanced space agencies.
In a statement, CMSA emphasized that the initiative reflects the values of peaceful cooperation, equality, and mutual benefit, ensuring that space exploration remains a shared effort for the betterment of humanity.
This mission will make Pakistan one of the few countries in the region to send an astronaut into space in collaboration with China. It symbolizes not just technological progress but also the deepening friendship and strategic cooperation between the two nations as they aim for new horizons, together, in space.
