Pakistan Petroleum Limited Gets Conditional Approval for Balochistan Mineral Exploration

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has received conditional approval from the Balochistan government for an exploration license (EL-331) in District Chagai, a region known for its rich mineral deposits.

Under this license, PPL will be permitted to explore precious and base metals along with other associated minerals. However, the company must first fulfill all legal, regulatory, and environmental requirements before full approval is granted.

The move marks an important step in PPL’s broader strategy to diversify its operations beyond hydrocarbons. Traditionally known for its oil and gas exploration, the company is now expanding into the minerals and mining sector to strengthen its long-term business sustainability and support Pakistan’s resource development goals.

Officials stated that this initiative aligns with the government’s focus on harnessing Balochistan’s untapped mineral wealth, which has the potential to contribute significantly to both the provincial and national economy.

PPL emphasized its commitment to maintaining transparency and following due process before beginning any field operations. The company also expressed optimism about the economic opportunities this project could bring to the region through investment, job creation, and infrastructure development.

Once all conditions are met and final approval is granted, the exploration project could pave the way for new discoveries in Pakistan’s mineral sector, further positioning PPL as a key player in the country’s expanding resource industry.
