Skywatchers across Pakistan are in for a treat tonight as the Beaver Supermoon, the largest and brightest full moon of 2025, will rise at 6:19 PM (PST).

According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the moon will be at its closest point to Earth, just 356,980 kilometers away, making it appear 7.9% larger and 16% brighter than an average full moon.

This rare event marks the second in a series of three consecutive supermoons expected between October and December 2025. The phenomenon will be visible across the world, offering a stunning view for astronomy lovers and photographers.

A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its perigee (the closest point in its elliptical orbit around Earth) and aligns with the full moon phase. This alignment causes the moon to appear unusually large and bright in the night sky.

Experts say that while the size difference might not be dramatic to the naked eye, the brighter glow and larger appearance will still be noticeable, especially during moonrise and moonset.

People are advised to head outdoors just after sunset to catch the best view, preferably from open areas with minimal light pollution.

Such celestial events not only offer a breathtaking sight but also remind us of the natural beauty and wonder of the universe. The next and final supermoon of 2025 is expected in December, closing out the year with another spectacular display.
