Romania to Name Street ‘Karachi Avenue’ in Tribute to 61 Years of Friendship with Pakistan

by Mahnoor Arif

Romania has announced a heartwarming gesture to celebrate its decades-long friendship with Pakistan by proposing to name a street in its port city Constanța as “Karachi Avenue.”

The initiative marks 61 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations and aims to highlight their growing connection through culture, trade, and education. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Romanian Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoenescu and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

As part of the cultural exchange, Pakistan is also considering a reciprocal proposal to name a street in Karachi as “Constanța Avenue,” symbolizing mutual respect and the shared maritime heritage of the two coastal cities.

Ambassador Stoenescu also announced the reopening of Romania’s Honorary Consulate in Karachi, a move expected to boost business, trade, tourism, and cultural ties between the two countries. He emphasized that this renewed engagement will create more opportunities for collaboration in education, technology, and sustainable development.

Officials noted that such initiatives go beyond symbolic gestures, they represent the deep and enduring friendship between Pakistan and Romania, built on shared values of cooperation, peace, and mutual growth.

The renaming of “Karachi Avenue” in Constanța stands as a reminder of how diplomacy, culture, and people-to-people ties continue to bring nations closer together.
