National Assembly Approves All 59 Clauses of 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill

Pakistan’s National Assembly has successfully passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill with a two-thirds majority. All 59 clauses of the bill were approved during a historic session marked by political tensions and protests.

The amendment introduces significant changes to Pakistan’s constitutional framework. One of the most important provisions is the creation of a new post called Chief of Defence Forces. This position will oversee the country’s military structure and defense operations.

Another major feature is the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court. This specialized court will handle cases related to constitutional matters, creating a separate judicial body for such important legal issues.

The voting session took place amid strong opposition from some political parties. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), one of the major opposition parties, boycotted the proceedings entirely, refusing to participate in the vote. Other opposition members present in the assembly protested by tearing copies of the bill, showing their disagreement with the amendment.

Despite the protests, the bill received enough support to pass with the required two-thirds majority. The session was attended by top political leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

The bill has now been sent to President Asif Ali Zardari for final approval. Once the President signs it, the amendment will become law and the constitutional changes will take effect.

This amendment represents one of the most significant changes to Pakistan’s constitution in recent years.
