Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has strongly criticized the federal government for what he called “step-motherly treatment” toward his province. Speaking at the Grand Peace Jirga, Afridi said that despite KP’s significant contribution to Pakistan’s economy through electricity, gas, and natural resources, the province is still deprived of its rightful financial dues.
“We provide the country with electricity, gas, and natural resources, yet our rightful dues are withheld,” he stated, demanding the immediate release of Rs 2,200 billion in hydel profit arrears and Rs 500 billion owed to merged districts.
The Chief Minister emphasized that KP has made immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, and therefore, it deserves fair treatment and financial justice. He stressed that ignoring the province’s economic rights not only hurts development but also undermines national unity.
Afridi reiterated his commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region through dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive governance. He said that strengthening KP’s economy and addressing local grievances are essential steps toward long-term national prosperity.
He concluded by highlighting that peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is directly linked to Pakistan’s overall progress, urging the federal government to prioritize the province’s financial concerns and recognize its vital role in securing and supporting the country.
