Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a major step forward for healthcare in Karachi by granting $15 million for the construction of a new 12-storey Emergency Tower at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC). This project is expected to transform one of the city’s busiest public hospitals, offering faster, more efficient, and expanded emergency care.
The new tower will include 722 beds and 17 fully equipped operating theatres, significantly increasing the hospital’s capacity to handle critical cases. With Karachi’s growing population and increasing pressure on public hospitals, this expansion aims to reduce patient load, waiting times, and overcrowding. According to officials, the grant will be released in two instalments during 2026–27 and 2027–28, allowing timely progress and smooth project execution.
In addition to this development, the provincial cabinet approved the creation of the People’s Community Health Services Company. This new body will focus on improving community-level healthcare and strengthening public health programs. A key part of its mission will be modernizing the Lady Health Worker program, which plays a crucial role in providing basic health services, especially in rural and underserved urban areas.
By revamping emergency care facilities and improving grassroots healthcare, the Sindh government aims to create a more accessible and efficient medical system for millions of people across the province. The new Emergency Tower at JPMC marks a significant step toward delivering better healthcare infrastructure and services for the residents of Sindh.
