New Law! Families of Air Accident Victims to Receive Up to Rs. 6 Crore

Pakistan has introduced a major change to its air travel laws, offering higher financial support to families affected by air accidents. The National Assembly’s Defence Sub-Committee has approved the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill 2025, which increases compensation for passengers on both international and domestic flights.

Under the new bill, families of passengers who lose their lives in international air accidents will receive up to Rs 6 crore. This is a significant increase aimed at helping families manage financial challenges after such tragic incidents. For domestic flights, the compensation amount has been raised to Rs 2 crore, ensuring fair support for victims’ families within Pakistan as well.

The bill also includes updated rules for baggage and cargo. Airlines will now be required to pay Rs 600,000 for each lost bag, providing passengers with better protection and accountability. In cases where cargo is damaged, airlines must pay Rs 5,000 per kilogram, ensuring that businesses and individuals do not suffer heavy losses due to airline negligence.

Officials have confirmed that payments to victims’ families under the new guidelines have already started. This shows the government’s commitment to ensuring quick and fair compensation.

The updated law aims to improve passenger protection, increase airline responsibility, and ensure stronger support for families during difficult times. It also encourages airlines to strengthen safety measures and improve handling of baggage and cargo.

With these changes, Pakistan moves closer to international aviation standards, creating a safer and more secure travel experience for all passengers.
