Pakistan Navy Helicopter Reportedly Rescues Man Trapped in Sri Lanka Floods After Cyclone

by Mahnoor Arif

A Pakistan Navy helicopter rescued a man trapped in severe floods in Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah caused heavy rain, landslides, and widespread destruction across the country.

According to official reports, the rescue took place in the Kotikawatta area of Colombo, where floodwaters had risen dangerously, leaving several people stranded on rooftops and upper floors of partially submerged homes. The navy also said that they also evacuated a family trapped on a rooftop of a submerged house. The family included a 7-month-old infant.

The Pakistan Navy helicopter, deployed from the warship PNS Saif docked in Colombo, reached the flooded neighbourhood after receiving an emergency call.

During the mission, the crew airlifted a stranded man who had been unable to escape due to rapidly rising water levels. The rescue team brought him to safety and transferred him to a secure location for further assistance.

This operation was part of the Pakistan Navy’s larger humanitarian mission in Sri Lanka, where the cyclone has affected more than half a million people. Authorities in Sri Lanka report significant loss of life, missing persons, and heavy damage to homes, roads, and public infrastructure.

Along with the rescue, PNS Saif also delivered humanitarian supplies, including food packs, dry rations, medicines, and first-aid kits to support the ongoing relief efforts. The mission highlights Pakistan’s commitment to helping Sri Lanka during a difficult time and reflects strong regional cooperation in disaster response.

The quick action of the Pakistan Navy has been widely appreciated as both countries continue working together to support affected communities.
