Pakistan Plans to Raise Fruit and Vegetable Exports to $2 Billion

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan is setting an ambitious new goal, to raise its fruit, vegetable, and value-added produce exports from about US$700 million currently to US$2 billion over the next three years. This target was unveiled by Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters and Merchants Association (PFVA) at a joint press conference with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

PFVA’s Patron-in-Chief Waheed Ahmed said that the push comes after strong international response at this year’s FoodAg 2025 exhibition. Twenty-five Pakistani exporters showcased fresh and processed produce to buyers from 35 countries. For the first time, export orders were received from new markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, and Oman.

TDAP Secretary Shehryar Taj added that FoodAg generated potential business deals worth US$730 million, underlining growing global confidence in Pakistan’s horticulture sector.

To reach the $2 billion goal, Pakistan plans to strengthen the entire agricultural value chain. Under the coordination of the newly formed Pakistan Horticulture Development Company (which includes all provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan), efforts will focus on boosting production, expanding processing and value-added operations, improving packaging and cold-chain infrastructure, and raising compliance with international export standards.

The strategy aims to diversify beyond fresh produce into processed items, such as fruit pulps, juices, concentrates, dried vegetables and fruits, to gain higher margins and reduce post-harvest losses. If successful, the plan could significantly increase foreign exchange earnings and position Pakistan as a stronger player in global agricultural exports.
