“I Can’t Sleep at Night if People are not Getting Basic Necessities”, Maryam Nawaz

by Mahnoor Arif

At the inauguration of the mass-transit project in Gujranwala on December 4, 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif delivered a heartfelt message about her government’s responsibility to the people. She said the mandate entrusted to her is not just about building projects, it is about serving citizens and ensuring they have access to essential services.

Speaking passionately at the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said she cannot sleep at night if she knows that someone is suffering: “If someone lacks proper treatment for illness, or a needy person is without support, or a child is denied education, that thought keeps me awake.” Her remarks reflect a promise to place welfare and basic human needs at the core of government policy.

The new Gujranwala Mass Transit Project itself is one of several steps being taken by her administration to improve public welfare and quality of life. It aims to give thousands of citizens a modern, accessible transport option.

Beyond transport, Maryam Nawaz’s government has emphasized education, healthcare, and social support for vulnerable groups. She has often spoken about extending support to farmers, workers, persons with disabilities, and flood-affected families to ensure no one is left behind.

Her words at Gujranwala serve as a reminder of the broader goals she sets for her government: not just infrastructure, but dignity, opportunity, and social justice for all residents of Punjab. The challenge now lies in translating her commitments into tangible improvements across the province.
