Heavy Rain and Snow Expected Across Northern Pakistan

by Mahnoor Arif

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rain and snowfall across northern Pakistan from December 13 to December 18. The alert has been shared to help people prepare and stay safe during changing weather conditions.

According to the advisory, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to receive heavy snowfall. Some areas of northern and western Balochistan may also see snow, especially in higher regions. At the same time, plains and lower areas are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall.

Authorities have warned that snowfall in mountainous regions could lead to road closures and traffic disruptions. Landslides and slippery roads may make travel dangerous, especially on highways connecting northern areas. Power outages are also possible in remote locations due to heavy snow and strong winds.

The NDMA has advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel during this period. People planning trips to hill stations and northern valleys are urged to postpone their journeys until weather conditions improve. Local residents are also encouraged to store essential supplies and keep warm clothing ready.

Emergency response teams and local administrations have been placed on alert to deal with any situation caused by severe weather. The public has been asked to follow official updates and instructions issued by district authorities.

The NDMA stressed the importance of caution, especially for people living in vulnerable areas. Farmers, drivers, and travelers should remain extra careful. By staying informed and following safety guidelines, the risk of accidents and losses can be reduced during this spell of rain and snowfall.
