Despite harsh winter conditions, around 40,000 tourists visited the snow covered Galyat region near Abbottabad over the past two days, following heavy snowfall recorded last week. The fresh snow turned the hill stations into a major attraction, drawing visitors from different parts of the country.
Director General of the Galyat Development Authority, Shah Rukh Ali, said that more than 10,000 vehicles entered the region during this period. He confirmed that no accidents were reported, which he credited to timely road clearance, traffic management, and coordination between local authorities and rescue services.
According to officials, snow has been cleared from main roads to keep traffic moving, although many routes remain slippery due to freezing temperatures. Tourists were advised to drive carefully and follow safety instructions while traveling in the area.
Rescue 1122 teams played a key role in assisting visitors. Several vehicles became stranded near the Chham area, where rescue workers helped families move to safer locations. Their quick response and support were widely appreciated by those affected.
Even with freezing temperatures and strong winds, tourists continued to arrive to enjoy the winter scenery. Hotels, restaurants, and local businesses reported increased activity as visitors explored popular spots in the region.
Authorities have issued warnings about possible landslides due to ongoing weather conditions. Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use tire chains, and stay updated on road conditions before heading to higher areas.
DG Shah Rukh Ali said he is personally monitoring the situation to ensure tourist safety and smooth traffic flow. Officials stressed that cooperation from visitors is essential to prevent emergencies during the winter season.
