Pakistan and Bangladesh are looking to strengthen cooperation between their air forces, with Bangladesh showing interest in the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet. The development followed high-level talks held in Islamabad between Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu and Bangladesh Air Force chief Hasan Mahmood Khan.

According to officials, the discussions covered a wide range of areas, including training, capacity building, and closer collaboration in the aerospace sector. Aircraft procurement was also part of the talks, during which Pakistan briefed the Bangladeshi side on the capabilities and operational performance of the JF-17 Thunder.

The JF-17 is a multi role fighter aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China. It is already in service with the Pakistan Air Force and has been exported to several countries. Defense analysts say Bangladesh’s interest reflects growing confidence in the aircraft’s cost effectiveness and combat capability.

Pakistan also offered support to Bangladesh in pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and air defense system integration. In addition, Islamabad proposed fast tracked delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, which are used for basic flight training and are already operated by multiple air forces.

The visit highlighted improving defense ties between the two countries and a shared desire to build a long term strategic partnership. Officials said both sides agreed to continue technical level discussions to explore practical steps for cooperation.

Observers note that the talks come at a time of changing regional security dynamics, where countries are seeking reliable partners and affordable defense solutions. Strengthened Pakistan Bangladesh defense cooperation could play an important role in future regional stability and security collaboration.
