Pakistan is taking significant steps to strengthen local vaccine manufacturing, with support from Saudi Arabia. An eleven-member Saudi delegation recently visited Islamabad to enhance bilateral cooperation in health, pharmaceuticals, and industrial development. The visit reflects both countries’ commitment to building self-reliance in vaccine production and ensuring public health security.
The discussions come after several high-level meetings over the past seven months between Pakistan’s Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and Saudi officials. Both sides have now appointed focal persons to oversee smooth coordination and follow-up on the proposed initiatives. Local vaccine production in Pakistan is expected to have multiple benefits. It will help meet national immunization requirements, reduce dependence on imported vaccines, save foreign exchange, and potentially allow surplus production for exports.
