Residents of Punjab are set to enjoy a four-day long weekend as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a series of public holidays in early February. The extended break will begin on Wednesday, February 5, which will be observed as Kashmir Day, followed by a provincial holiday on February 6 to mark the return of the Basant festival. The break will continue through the regular weekend on Saturday and Sunday, giving people four days off in total.

The chief minister encouraged citizens to use the holidays to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with their families. She highlighted the importance of balancing work with cultural and national observances, especially during events that hold emotional and social value for the public.

In Lahore, the announcement has created a wave of excitement. Basant, the traditional spring kite-flying festival, is making a controlled return after nearly two decades. Markets in areas such as Mochi Gate have seen large crowds, with people buying kites and strings ahead of the celebrations. Traders report strong sales as residents prepare to take part in the festival.

According to officials, kite flying will be allowed in Lahore from February 6 to 8, but under strict rules to ensure public safety. Authorities have warned against using dangerous kite strings and urged citizens to follow safety guidelines.

The four-day weekend is being welcomed by families, traders, and cultural groups alike. Many see it as a chance to enjoy traditions, relax from daily routines, and celebrate the arrival of spring safely and responsibly.
