The Punjab government has approved a new financial assistance program for widowed women under the Widow Support Card Scheme.

The initiative, announced by the Chief Minister of Punjab, aims to provide direct cash support to widows and help ease the financial burden on vulnerable families across the province.

The scheme will be implemented through the Punjab Zakat and Welfare Department. Under the program, each eligible widow will receive a one time cash amount of Rs 100,000.

In addition, widows with children will receive extra financial support. An additional Rs 25,000 will be provided for one child, while widows with two children will receive Rs 50,000 to help cover basic household and educational expenses.

Officials say the program is designed to support women who often face economic hardship after the loss of a spouse. The financial aid is expected to help widows manage daily living costs, healthcare needs, and child related expenses. By offering direct assistance, the government hopes to improve financial stability for affected families.

A total budget of Rs 4 billion has been allocated for the Widow Support Card Scheme. Authorities expect the program to benefit thousands of widowed women across Punjab.

The scheme is scheduled to be launched by the end of this month, with the registration process and fund disbursement beginning soon after.

Government officials have stated that transparent eligibility criteria and a streamlined registration process will be introduced to ensure the funds reach deserving beneficiaries. Further details regarding registration and documentation requirements are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader focus on social welfare and targeted support for underprivileged segments of society, particularly women and children facing financial vulnerability.
