Islamabad Cracks Down on Unregistered Online Taxi Services

by Mahnoor Arif

Islamabad authorities have announced a strict crackdown on unregistered online taxi and motorcycle services operating in the federal capital. The decision aims to bring all ride-hailing and transport services under a formal regulatory framework to improve public safety and accountability.

According to officials, all online taxi and bike operators will now be required to complete official registration before continuing their services. This includes submitting complete records of vehicles and drivers, such as registration details, driving licences, and background information. Companies that fail to comply may face penalties or suspension of operations.

A key part of the new policy is the introduction of a digital reporting system linked with Islamabad Police. Once registered, drivers will be required to upload passenger details, including national identity card numbers, for every trip. Authorities say this step is designed to enhance passenger security, help track rides in real time, and assist law enforcement in case of emergencies or complaints.

The registration process is set to begin from tomorrow, and officials have urged all service providers to cooperate fully. Inspections will be carried out across the city to identify unregistered vehicles, while coordination meetings will also be held with executives of ride-hailing companies to ensure smooth implementation.

Officials believe the move will help regulate the rapidly growing online transport sector, reduce misuse of services, and build public trust. Passengers are also advised to use only registered ride-hailing services to ensure their safety.

The crackdown reflects Islamabad’s broader effort to modernize urban transport while maintaining strict security and legal standards for public services.
