Denmark has reportedly moved forward with a $45 million purchase of US made AGM 114R Hellfire missiles and associated equipment under a Foreign Military Sale arrangement. The package includes up to 100 missiles along with launch systems, testing units, and transport trailers.
The proposed sale received approval from the US State Department and was formally notified to Congress through the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. Officials stated that the deal is intended to enhance Denmark’s defense capabilities, particularly in Greenland, which holds growing strategic importance in the Arctic region.
Greenland’s geographic position has drawn increased international attention due to shifting security dynamics and expanded activity in the Arctic. By upgrading its missile systems, Denmark aims to strengthen surveillance and response capacity while maintaining alignment with NATO defense standards.
Lockheed Martin Missile and Defense has been named as the primary contractor for the agreement. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the transaction is not expected to disrupt the regional military balance. The agency also clarified that the deal will not require deployment of additional US personnel to Denmark or Greenland, nor will it impact US military readiness.
As Arctic security gains prominence in global defense planning, the acquisition reflects Denmark’s efforts to modernize its armed forces and safeguard its territorial interests in coordination with allied partners.
